DANZIG Book Of Lyrics Finally Available

2010-03-09 - 19:16 | News, Reviews | No comments

from Blabbermouth:

For every Glenn Danzig fan who was dying to know the lyrics to all the DANZIG, MISFITS and SAMHAIN songs — tracks that never had their “dark verses” printed — well, wait no more. A book of Glenn Danzig’s song lyrics, illustrated by longtime Danzig collaborator and friend Simon Bisley, has finally been made available via the Verotik web site. Each song gets its own illustration by Bisley, who has painted many album covers for Danzig, including the latest CD, “The Lost Tracks Of Danzig”, and ex-MISFITS member Doyle Von Frankenstein’s solo project GORGEOUS FRANKENSTEIN (which Glenn produced).

“Hidden Lyrics Of The Left Hand” can be ordered at this location.

As previously reported, DANZIG has set “Deth Red Sabaoth” as the title of its new album, tentatively due this spring. Drummer Johnny Kelly (TYPE O NEGATIVE, SEVENTH VOID) and Tommy Victor (PRONG, MINISTRY) will appear on most of the tracks, according to a posting on DANZIG’s official web site.

Although Johnny Kelly has been performing live with DANZIG off and on since 2002, this will mark the first time he has recorded with the band. Tommy Victor, of course, played guitar on 2004’s “Circle Of Snakes” album.

The CD will feature a song called “Long Dark Road”, which is decribed by Glenn as “very creepy and echo-y. It’s like an old kind of ’50s-ish kind of song. I’ve been having in my head probably for about six, seven, eight years. I haven’t gotten around to recording it, and I recorded it, so it’s pretty cool.”

Night Of The Vinyl Dead recently released a limited-edition (500 copies) vinyl version of DANZIG’s 2002 album, “777 – I Luciferi”. The package contains a 12-page photo book and screenprint by M. Fumi.

“777 – I Luciferi” was previously released on CD only through Eagle-Spitfire Records.

Craig Gillespie in Talks to Direct Fright Night Remake

2010-03-09 - 02:12 | News | No comments

From AOL Horror-Squad:
By: Mike Bracken

Dreamworks has been threatening us with a Fright Night remake for quite awhile now, but those threats have mostly been empty. That could be changing, as the LA Times is reporting the project has been moved on to the high priority fast track.

As proof that this isn’t just Dreamworks blowing more smoke, the article breaks news that Craig Gillespie is now in negotiations to take the reins on the remake. Reports indicate that the studio was mulling over several filmmakers, but decided Gillespie was their man and began serious negotiations on Friday. The director is best known for the romantic comedy Lars and the Real Girl and the Billy Bob Thornton vehicle Mr. Woodcock. Buffy the Vampire Slayer scribe Marti Noxon is working on the screenplay.

The original Fright Night found a teenaged horror film fan Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale) teaming up with creature feature host Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall) to battle a vampire who’s moved in next door and set his sights on Charley’s girlfriend. Directed by Tom Holland, it’s one of the better examples of how to mix horror and comedy without alienating either audience.

If Gillespie does sign on for the project, the next big step would appear to be casting. I don’t particularly care who plays Charley in a remake, but I do care about who they get to play Peter Vincent. McDowall will be a tough act to follow–who would you cast in that pivotal role?

Abraham Lincoln hunts vampires in film adaptation

2010-03-04 - 01:35 | News | No comments

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Tim Burton and “Wanted” director Timur Bekmambetov are teaming to bring the new novel “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” to the big screen.

The book, written by Seth Grahame-Smith, was released Tuesday by Grand Central Publishing.

Burton and Bekmambetov are not attached to direct, but will produce the adaptation with Jim Lemley. The trio first collaborated to produce the animated fantasy “9″ with Focus Features released last fall.

Grahame-Smith, who combined zombies and Jane Austen in the best-selling novel ” Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” will write the screenplay. Hollywood already has its hooks in “Zombies”; the book is set up at Lionsgate with Natalie Portman producing and attached to direct.

“Lincoln” is not set up anywhere, but Burton and Bekmambetov hope to change that soon. One of the factors that cemented the filmmakers’ interest was a peek at an in-house trailer for the book.

“Lincoln” reimagines one of the great U.S. presidents as an axe-throwing, highly trained vampire assassin, promising to give new context to real historical events such as the Civil War and Lincoln’s ascension to the White House . It begins with his mother’s murder when he was still a young boy and his vow of revenge.

Burton returns to theaters on Friday with “Alice in Wonderland.”

Rare MISFITS Recording Unearthed After 15 Years

2010-02-25 - 13:54 | News | No comments

From Blabbermouth:

MISFITS book author and veteran punk drummer Joel Gausten (PIGFACE, THE UNDEAD, ELECTRIC FRANKENSTEIN) has posted an unreleased MISFITS rehearsal demo of “Who Killed Marilyn?” at this location. The site also includes an in-depth blog (entitled “15 Years Ago Today…”) detailing the recording of this and the other featured MISFITS demos.

Like Gausten’s previously-posted demos (”London Dungeon”, “Astro Zombies”, “Hatebreeders”, “Angelfuck”, “She”, “Nike A Go Go” and “I Turned Into A Martian”), “Who Killed Marilyn?” was recorded on February 25, 1995 — exactly 15 years ago — at the MISFITS’ rehearsal compound in New Jersey. The recording features Jerry Only on bass, Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein on guitar, Eric Weiss on vocals and a 17-year-old Gausten on drums. The song was part of an 11-song demo recording engineered by MISFITS drummer-to-be, Dr. Chud. These tracks were recorded several months prior to Michale Graves becoming the band’s official singer.

“Earlier this week, I realized that it would soon be 15 years since this recording session took place, and I wanted to do something special to celebrate that date,” explains Gausten. “‘Who Killed Marilyn?’ remains a favorite MISFITS song of mine, and it was a blast to dig out this recording, go down memory lane and hear a 17-year-old me make noise with Jerry and Doyle!”

At the time of the recording, Gausten had been serving as one of the band’s fill-in rehearsal drummers while the group was auditioning vocalists. Gausten detailed his experiences with the MISFITS in his out-of-print 2006 book, “Tales of Horror: The History of The Misfits & The Undead”, which will be re-released this summer as a deluxe edition with a new cover by artist Shannon Gardner-Gausten, updated/expanded information on both the MISFITS and THE UNDEAD and a brand-new interview with former MISFITS drummer “Mr. Jim” Catania.

1349: New Album Title Announced

2010-02-23 - 14:22 | News | No comments

Norwegian black metallers 1349 will release their new album, “Demonoir”, on April 26 in Europe via Indie Recordings and one day later in North America through Prosthetic Records.

According to a press release, “Demonoir” is “without a shadow of a doubt 1349’s darkest, most sinister and brutal work to date, and in this case it comes to mean that the band has gone from the utterly extreme to the genre-expanding and mindboggling. Black metal cannot, and will never be the same.

“For the band’s fifth full-length release, 1349 decided to suck out the fiercest and most potent energies from every single member and surroundings, channeling it into songs that are pulsating with uncanny atmospheres, rawness and nerve-shattering intensity. The whole process of getting the material on record was like one long, exhausting black magic summoning that could not be allowed to go wrong.”

“Demonoir” will be available in three different versions:

* Regular CD
* Limited digipack version with special artwork, including a bonus CD with cover versions.
* Double 180-gram vinyl in gatefold sleeve. Includes cover versions.
