As summer draws to a close and Autumn’s color and chill approach, the hit TV series “Lee Martin’s The Midnight Hour” unleashes a ghoulish new season for horror fans around the world.

First up is “Blood of the Living Dead,” premiering on September 1 and repeating every Thursday and Saturday throughout September, 2011.

The story concerns a mysterious stretch of isolated country and what happens when unwary humans find themselves alone in it. Churning underneath the ground are the not-quite-dead remains of decomposing humans, hungry for the taste of human flesh.

The episode features (in order of appearance) Scott Sell, Erika Hoveland, Holly Neelie, Eric Henzi, Linda Linsley and Laura Kopytek. Also on display are the gory makeup effects of Jason Hiltz, who makes a cameo appearance under heavy makeup as a zombie—and special photographic effects courtesy Brian Schoof.

“Blood of the Living Dead” opens with a viewer discretion advisory, which fans can expect to see on all of the upcoming episodes throughout season four. The entry takes its place as one of the goriest in the series’ history and is highly recommended for late-night pre-Halloween fun.

“This is our first zombie-themed episode,” remarks series creator Lee Martin. “We’ve taken traditional zombie themes and dressed them up in a very offbeat story to keep things fresh.”

Horror-Punks Mary Mortem caught up with Blitzkid’s Goolsby on their recent tour and got the lowdown on the band, the new album and T.B.departing…

Four years ago I was introduced to Blitzkid through a former friend. The first song I heard of theirs was Pretty In a Casket. Because it had such a great sound, I knew at once I would love this band. Sure enough, the more Blitzkid songs I heard the more I loved them and they quickly became one of my all time favorite bands.

This past February, I was able to take a road trip to see them perform live during their Apparitional Tour at The Summit Music Hall in Denver, Colorado. This leg of the tour was particularly important because it would be the last shows that Blitzkid guitarist and founder TB Monstrosity would be a part of.

The show was amazing to say the least! The band’s stage presence was phenomenal and their energy was contagious!

Their set included songs from Five Cellars Below and Terrifying Tells, they even covered Social Distortion’s Mommy’s Little Monster and upon their last song, Nosferatu they invited a fan onstage to play bass with them!

After the show they gladly met their fans, signed autographs, and took pictures. Blitzkid’s devotion and gratitude towards their fans was warm felt and sincere. I had the opportunity to sit down with Blitzkid bassist, Argyle Goolsby for a quick interview;

MM: You recently signed to Century Media, How did that come about?

Argyle Goolsby: We were signed to Fiend Force Records for a while, we signed for four [albums] I believe. They decided to license out our older records. They did really well so they decided to bring us on for a number of other records. We released two more after that. We did Five Cellars Below and Anatomy of Reanimation and at the time we met with Century Media, People Like You records. With People Like You Records they offered a lot of support and they knew our desire to expand the band and go to a bigger label. They are a really good label and they are supportive of all of their bands. The guy who runs People, Tristan, he is with a band as well a band called The Others. So he knows what it is like. He got approached by People Like You to do an Apparitional [album]. Basically they at that point, they were getting combined with Century Media Records. That opened the door to us for to have an American label, prior to that we did not have an American label at all. So now we have a European label and an American label as well, so that’s big for us.

MM: Yeah that’s really awesome! When you were you were performing I thought you guys said that the new album would be out in March is that true?

AG: Well, that’s the thing with there being two divisions. We’re defined as a European label, from the European end of the label. So they have separate promotion cycles and schedules and things like that than in North America and other territories have. So the album is coming out in March in Europe and in May in the states. But we had a single coming out, a vinyl, Head Over Heels, I think that is going to be available.

MM: You guys recently announced that TB is leaving, so how is this going to affect the sound of the band and the song writing process?

AG: Not much actually, and that’s not to discount TB’s input or his involvement, really. You know, the way we write, I write a lot of songs, he writes songs as well. You know, whenever I’ve gone to write, I write everything. I write the guitars, the drums, the bass, the melodies, [and] the harmonies. So I do everything, [but] he writes some of it as well. So its like we have two songwriters in the band. But, you know, with Starlite Decay, Terrror in the Haunted House, or Cannibal Flesh Riot, you know, I wrote all those songs by myself. And I don’t say that to take credit for them or to take credit away from him. But the way the songwriting has been done now, its not going to be done much different. There were two songwriters in one band and now there is one songwriter. But that’s actually not entirely true. Because, Nate, our guitar player, he’s a great song writer. He was in a band called The Epidemic. We have a lot of material. It’s really not going to change much. It’s just for maybe the die-hards and purists [they] might find it to be a bit hard to get use to, because the dynamic has changed, the face has changed, the appearance is going to change. But the heart of it has not. He [TB] has different priorities now, he’s married, but we’re not in a position where we need to quit.

MM: What can we see from the band after TB departs?

AG: We may or may not get another guitar player. I like us as a four piece. I like it being filled out, you know, with the guitars. We’ve tried it before with half, but we like [having] another guitar player, it fills our set out. Now that Tracy has played with Nate, he can properly take over on leads. He can play everything that Tracy plays. You know what I mean? It’s not like we’re going to ask some guy up there who’s in “my first punk band” playing guitar. We might find another guy, I don’t know. But [we’re] just doing a lot of touring. We already have another record ready to go, we have material that didn’t go on this album ready for another one. We’ll be busy for he next few years.

MM: Was TB apart of the current album that is coming out?

AG: Yeah he was the guitarist, he is playing guitar on this album.

MM: Awesome! Is there any possible chance we could see TB contributing at some point down the road, possibly songwriting or an original Blitzkid reunion tour?

AG: Yeah! I don’t see that as being out of the question, I mean because we are all friends. It’s not like, you know, we hate each other. There has been rumors that started and we have already heard rumors, “They hate each other. They don’t get along“. If we hated each other we wouldn’t be here. We wouldn’t be on tour together in a van, where like every situation you have is just completely amplified because you’re in a van 24 hours a day with each other. So I mean, you know, it’s fine. We just have different lives, you know, paths now. But I mean as far as him contributing, and playing, and coming out to concerts if that’s something he is willing to do he is more than welcome to.

MM: Do you think Blitzkid would ever be a household horror punk name like The Misfits? Or would you want to be a household horror punk name?

AG: Yeah. I mean, I would hope so. You know, we have been a band for going on almost fifteen years now. Um, I’m not really for any kind of, you know, watermark of success at this point. Success is relative, you know. I come back from what I’m doing, I step back and look at it, and to me it’s already successful. When we first started there were all these concessions, like “Oh if we could do this it would be cool, we’d be successful.” But things just don’t happen that way. If you can endure and people still like your band, if people, you know, they move on, you know? A lot of bands they don’t have the same band after five years and we do so I kind of feel like even if we’re not a household name, we are still a name in households that knew us five years ago and that’s an accomplishment.

MM: Is there anything else you would like to add?

AG: Um, I mean, not really. Other than, you know, we appreciate everyone that comes out to the shows and supports us and buys our records, and listens to us and downloads our albums and tells their friends about us. You know we’re a band of the fans, you know? It sounds cheesy but its true. I mean, we’ve never been a band that’s set out to be on stage to divide ourselves from people. You know, we’ve always been on the other end so being on the other side now, it’s not a wall, its not like a entry way for other people to be apart from what we‘re doing. And to all those people that get what we are doing, we appreciate it, and ask for their continues support, you know?

MM: I think as a fan, I know I appreciate it, I think other fans do as well.

AG: Thank you.
