Beyond Villainous – Aaron Omen

2010

The debut release from Aaron Omen is chock full of good old fashion ghoulishness. Featuring 15 tracks of punk fueled horror rock. Though musically there’s nothing really earth shattering or ground breaking, just your standard 3 chord punk riffs and the common subject matter of vampires, zombies and the like but what makes this album really stand out is the fact that the guy can sing. Reminiscent of Blitzkid and The Rosedales, Aaron pulls you in with his smooth as butter crooning with catchy choruses, ooze and ahhs and a whole lot of memorable songs that will fester in your mind like a parasite. On top of that, he played all of the instruments, so he’s got talent too. There are several songs that stand out such as, “Kill Scene”, “Immortality”, “We’ll Die Together” and my personal favorite, “Terror at the Red Wolf Inn” to name a few but overall there isn’t a dud in the bunch. There’s also a couple of musical interludes to tie it all together in a nice neat package. Argyle Goolsby of Blitzkid & Georgeous Frankenstein makes a guest appearance on the album to help with backing vocals as well. To close out the album, Aaron pulls off an acoustic version of the Ramones classic, “Pet Cemetery”. Overall, “Beyond Villainous” is a fun, blood dripping rip ride to hell, a worthy edition to your CD collection. I bet live it’s even better. So check it out! It will interesting to see what the future holds for this guy.
